July 2024 review

We highly recommend the wine tour and tasting offered by Blackdown Ridge Vineyard in Lurgashall West Sussex. It’s in a beautiful location at a high point of the South Downs. Lucinda, who is largely responsible for everything that happens in the vineyards and the winery is an excellent hostess and  informative guide, generating a very relaxed atmosphere in the tasting room. Blackdown produces an interesting and impressive range of wines, all at reasonable prices:

-a classic style champagne-method Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay blend and a Pinot Noir sparkling rose.

-the still wines range consists of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir/Pinot Meunier rose; sadly for us, Blackdown’s highly acclaimed red wine made from the Triomphe varietal was out of stock. Good English red wines are hard to come by, so we’re looking forward to a return visit so that we can sample a wine which experts have described as being ‘fruit-driven, voluptuous and generous in body with hints of spice’.”
